Abiqua Falls is a truly special place. Hidden away on protected land, finding the falls is no easy task. After following a compilation of directions from various different sources, including one gas station attendant, I found myself repelling down a steep, muddy, rock face using an old rope that had been left by previous adventure seekers. The trail to the falls isn't particularly long, but it's not marked and it did put you in some pretty sketchy spots. In the end, it's worth the risk. You come upon the falls by following a small river up into an amphitheater of vertical rock. The entire amphitheater is filled with thunder and mist. I set up my tripod and sat down to just enjoy the scene around me. Over the next few hours I sat quietly and clicked away. During this time, my only company was a curious bald eagle, who would circle the amphitheater from time to time, looking for his next meal.
